All skills at V:

EHP: 4444.4
DPS: 0, but capable of repping 216 Armor HP every 2.5s.
Speed:  2079m/s
Capacitor: 3m with the MWD on, stable at 53.6% without.  Pulse the MWD
Optimal range:  24-25km is the sweet spot, but the maximum range of the reppers is 28.8km
Cost:  8m isk approx

For better or worse, Gallente ships are designed to armour tank.  The Navitas, therefore, is the ‘healer class’ ship, boasting 10% bonuses to both repair amount and capacitor use per level of Gallente Frigate skill.

It also gets a 500% bonus to the range of Remote Armor Repairers, which is a massive relief given their lame default range.

Of the myriad ways to fit out the Navitas, this is the setup I prefer.  Obviously the three reppers are pretty much mandatory when it’s main job is to repair armour, remotely.

But the rest of the fit is about improving that repair performance, getting it cap stable, and what’s left goes on the tank.

This ship needs to be cap stable to work properly, without resorting to shovelling Cap Booster 400s down it’s neck like some other fits suggest.  To achieve cap nirvana, you really need to train up your Repair Systems and Remote Armor Repair Systems skills as high as possible.  Once you’ve got this fit nailed down, cap stable, you can meta down the Small Capacitor Battery II or Cap Recharger II to save money.

The Navitas has a single drone bay, into which we are supposed to slot the appropriate drone: the Light Armor Maintenance Bot II, which required Repair Drone Operation V. Although it moves quite quickly for a non-combat drone, and reps 26HP every 5s, I would be inclined to skip it.  The LAMB I only requires Repair Drone Operation I, so if you want the whopping 22HP / 5s repping it delivers, choose that instead.

But in many ways, the role of the Navitas couldn’t be more clear-cut.  Your only job is to repair the armour of your gang or fleet’s ships, while staying in range and not getting whacked yourself.  This is easier said than done, given the fast-paced nature of frigate combat where ships are spreading out all over the place, in 3D space.  You are likely to be an early target in a fleet battle, so be careful.

How to fly it
  • Set your keep at range to about 24-25km.
  • Positioning is vital.  The range of your remote reppers is 28.8km.  This isn’t much at all, especially if MWD frigates are zipping around at 3-4km/s.  So you have to make a decision about where to position yourself.  If there’s a ‘front’ in the battle, you want to be behind your fleet, but not so far behind that you can’t keep up.  Generally speaking, about 20-22km behind a bunch of ships is about right.
  • Pulse your MWD to scuttle out of trouble. Don't leave it on
  • You need to select ships in your fleet as targets, and there’s rarely enough logi to go round.  So you have to make a tough choice.  I tend to choose the four biggest tanks, keep two ‘target’ slots clear, and leave the kites to their own devices.
  • You can either spread out your reps – putting a separate rep on three different ships – or target them all on the same ship.  Personally I favour the ‘all reps on one ship’ approach, at least initially.  But there’s no set rule.
  • Keep a close eye on your targets.  If they start dipping into armour, fast, then engage all the reppers quickly on this target.
  • People will call for reps, either broadcasting their requirements over the fleet icon system, or moaning into fleet TeamSpeak.  You’ve got to make split second decisions and try and keep as many people alive as possible.
  • If you’re getting attacked, you can elect to MWD (with heat if required) out of trouble.  Try to avoid letting enemy ships close you down if possible.  Easier said than done in a frenetic battle, I know.
